The first European Industry Day, celebrated in Brussels last February 28^th, reasserted the fact that industrial activities still represent the backbone of Europe’s economy. Up to 24% of Europe’s GDP and one fourth of the employed population, corresponding to about 50 million people, depend on the manufacturing sector, which is finally showing signs of recovery.

According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, in January 2017, the industrial production in the countries of the euro area reported a 0.9% growth compared to the previous month. Digitalization, energy- and resource-efficient technologies, automation and artificial intelligence will be the major focus of the EU industry over the next few years. The challenge of the global market can be met successfully with innovation.

Everything is important in the new industrial designs that take inspiration from innovative “green” synergies, including lighting systems that can give a fundamental contribution to this process:

Here are some examples of new industrial lighting systems in Europe.

Slovakia, more energy-efficient industrial plants

The plants of Stavokov deal with the manufacture of steel structures and their installation in technological systems, industrial plants and bridges. The manufacturing plant covers a total surface area of 43,687 sqm, of which 4,572 sqm are occupied by the warehouses, where the lighting system was renovated.

The old lighting fixtures were replaced with a total of 127 Astro LED fixtures, Disano’s latest spotlights fitting new generation LED sources. For the local lighting of work benches, 957 high-performance ECHO LED spotlights were installed.

This led to a notable reduction of power consumption levels and remarkable savings.

Light is controlled by a DALI system that adjusts lighting levels in the different areas of the plant, according to the amount of existing daylight and manufacturing needs, in line with new eco-sustainable standards.

Portugal, lower environmental impact

Another interesting example is the system that Disano completed in Portugal at the AMS Star Paper SA, which is part of a major group of paper manufacturers. The company decided to make investments to reduce its environmental impact, by cutting CO2 emissions by 22000 tons/year, confirming its status as one of the most sustainable and energy-efficient companies in the country and an industry leader in Europe.

With these goals in mind, the company also decided to renovate its lighting system. The switch over to the LED technology was carried out through an accurate restyling of the lighting installation, which was specifically studied to meet the needs of different manufacturing areas, by selecting the products with the most updated technology.

The lighting design was made with the aid of the Dialux software that was used to study all the areas to be illuminated in order to make sure that lighting values fell within EU standards, while maximizing energy-efficiency and lamp life.

The quality of light, which was guaranteed by the LED sources having a colour rendering of CRI 80 and optics with lower glare rates (UGR <19), resulted to be fundamental to increase productivity and ensure safety at work.

The lighting project included the installation of Astro LED (Disano) fixtures, along with Indio LED, Cripto LED, Echo LED, Minicomfort LED and LED Panel.

Norway, new lighting trends

Moelven Wood Prosjekt is a timber processing company located in Brumunddall, Norway. It operates in the construction and finishing of timber products for interiors as a leader in the Northern European market.

The company renovated the lighting system of the company’s entrance ways by installing some of Disano’s most stylish and energy-saving fixtures of its catalogue, such as Polar, Faro and Mini Stelvio. The possibility to control each light point in an interactive way avoids wasting energy, while protecting the environment.

The company’s needs are to recreate functional transit ways and a comfortable workspace.
