WIT Arena, LED for sports and fitness

WIT Arena is the largest sports and entertainment centre in the South-East of Ireland. The complex, which also hosts conferences and events, is located on the outskirts of the city of Waterford, just off the motorway exit, which makes it easily accessible to the people of the county and neighbouring cities.

This multi-purpose facility can be used for indoor and outdoor sports of all levels, from recreational sport to the training sessions of professional athletes and it is perfect for hosting shows and conventions. Along with the fields for football, basketball, volleyball and badminton there are gyms with modern fitness equipment.

The facility was created to fulfil the most advanced criteria of energy efficiency and sustainability, including its lighting system.

The lighting project

Disano took care of the lighting design and supplied a very wide range of lighting fixtures for the entire facility, creating a lighting system that uses the most modern LED technology. In detail, in the larger facility (the sport hall), lighting is emitted by 84 Modoled reflectors (Disano), equipped with latest generation LED technology and a lamp life of 80,000 hours (70% L70B20). Reflectors can also be controlled remotely with DALI technology.

In the gyms and other service areas, there are 267 LED Panel (Disano) fixtures. LED Panel is a square or rectangular light panel that can be easily mounted to the ceiling with quick clamps without the need to open the fixture. Its shape allows light to be evenly distributed and white light LEDs (with colour temperatures between 3000 and 4000 K) emit high quality light, ensuring maximum visual comfort and perfect colour rendering (CRI 93).

Moreover, the overall project included the use of LED spotlights of various shapes and dimensions, such as Elba, Jet, Office1 and Velvet by Fosnova, which are part of the LED High Performance range.

Lastly, in the rooms and conference halls, quality energy-saving lighting is guaranteed by Minicomfort (Disano), with dark light optics to eliminate glare, and with Echo LED (Disano), a watertight fixture with great robustness and the best performance.
